Nutritional Therapy Definition
Nutritional therapy is the application of evidence-based nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances to understand how these imbalances may contribute towards an individual’s signs, symptoms and health concerns. Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and registered nutritional therapists are registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and are accredited by the UK government Professional Standards Authority (PSA). NettyNutrition is a member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) and abide by the BANT practice guidelines.
Nutritional therapy practitioners consider every person to be individual and unique and they recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than apply a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Nutritional therapy is not intended to constitute or represent medical advice, diagnosis or treatment and is not a substitute for medical advice from qualified medical professionals. Nutritional therapists will refer clients who present with ‘red flag’ signs and symptoms to a medical professional. Nutritional therapists do work in collaboration with clients’ GP or other relevant qualified healthcare and medical professionals involved in the client’s case where relevant.
NettyNutrition requests that the Client takes special notice of the following information:
Nutritional therapists do not diagnose or treat medical conditions or prescribe medication. Nutritional therapy is not a substitute for medical advice.
Registered nutritional therapists are governed by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) code of conduct. Clients can search the CNHC register to confirm their NT is on the CNHC register.
The Client understands and agrees to the following:
The Client is responsible for contact their GP or other qualified healthcare professional about any health concerns.
The Client is responsible for informing the nutritional therapist if he/she has any diagnosed medical conditions, is undergoing medical treatment and/or taking any prescription or over-the-counter medication.
It is important that the Client informs the nutritional therapist if he/she is taking any food supplements in the Initial consultation as this may impact the personalised nutritional therapy recommendations made by the nutritional therapist.
If the Client is uncertain or unclear about the agreed nutritional therapy programme, meal plans and food supplement recommendations the Client should contact the nutritional therapist for clarification promptly.
The Client understands that the nutritional therapy recommendations are personalised and unique to the Client and may not be appropriate to others.
Recommended food supplements should not be taken for longer than the recommended period without prior consultation with the nutritional therapist.
Recording consultations on any form of electronic device is not permitted unless expressly agreed by the nutritional therapist and the Client.
